and community leaders working to catalyze a clean energy revolution in America
to reduce the country's dependence on oil imports, cut carbon emissions,
and expand opportunities for American businesses and workers. Among its efforts,
Apollo has proposed a $300-billion, 10-year program of federal tax credits and
investments, which the group believes can create 3.3 million new, high-wage jobs
in manufacturing, construction, transportation, high tech, and the public sector,
while reducing dependence on foreign oil and cleaning the environment.
Blue Green Alliance
www.bluegreenalliance.org
Launched in 2006, the Blue Green Alliance is led by the United Steelworkers and
Sierra Club along with other "blue" (blue collar/labor) and "green"
(environmental) partners. The group aims to heighten public awareness about the
job-creating potential of solutions to global warming; use existing economic development
tools to expand investment in clean energy and green chemistry; accelerate green
building, energy efficient retrofits, and related spin-off industries; create
more investments in green jobs, including those related to fuel-efficient vehicles;
and reform trade agreements so they include binding labor rights and environmental
standards.
Building Materials Reuse Association
www.buildingreuse.org
The Building Materials Reuse Association is a non-profit educational organization
whose mission is to facilitate building deconstruction and the reuse/recycling
of recovered building materials.
Co-op America: Green Business Network
www.coopamerica.org/cabn
Co-op America's Green Business Network, formally established in 1992, has the
explicit mission of helping the green business sector — businesses with
deep social and environmental commitments — emerge and succeed. The Green
Business Network markets small- to medium-sized green businesses through events
such as the Green Festivals and publications such as Co-op America's National
Green Pages.
Green Communities Initiative (Enterprise Community Partners)
www.greencommunitiesonline.org
Green Communities is a five-year, $555 million commitment by the community development
intermediary Enterprise to build more than 8,500 healthy, efficient homes for
low-income people and make environmentally sustainable development the mainstream
in the affordable housing industry. Green Communities provides funds and expertise
to enable developers to build and rehabilitate homes that are healthier, more
energy efficient and better for the environment -- without compromising affordability.
Green For All
www.greenforall.org
Green For All is a national group that aims to build an inclusive green economy
in a way that alleviates poverty and pollution at the same time. Launched at the
Clinton Global Initiative in 2007, Green For All grew out of the work of activist
Van Jones, who helped create a “Green Job Corps” in Oakland, California
as part of a program at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.
Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Waste to Wealth Program
www.ilsr.org/recycling/index.html
Since 1974, the Institute for Local Self Reliance's “Waste to Wealth”
program has helped to convert wastes from environmental and economic liabilities
into valuable resources that contribute to community development. Areas of focus
include supporting the development of sustainable biomaterials to replace fossil-fuel-based
plastics, developing green industrial parks, salvaging building materials through
deconstruction, and promoting zero waste planning and recycling-based economic
development (in place of waste incineration projects).
Mid Atlantic Consortium of Recycling and Economic
Development Officials
www.macredo.org
The Mid-Atlantic Consortium of Recycling and Economic Development Officials (also
known as “MACREDO”) brings together recycling and economic development
officials in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the
